Why there's politics on a travel blog

This may not work. I may run out of motivation, get bored, or just realise I don't understand a single fucking thing after all. But my plan is to use this part of the blog as a place to write about politics and economics - partly to structure my thoughts and understand things better, partly because I can't stop thinking about this stuff anyway.

If any of this helps anyone else, great. If not, well I'm just some bloke in a van with a cat, so what do you expect?

Currently I'm reading a lot about degrowth, modern monetary theory, and how our current economic thinking has led us down some very wrong paths. That's likely to be the initial direction of these posts, but they'll probably stray into other territory I know equally little about from time to time.

One thing I've learned - whether it's traveling or studying - is that the more you explore, the more you realize there is to discover. Every new place reveals ten more you want to visit. Every new idea opens up questions you hadn't even thought to ask. Your horizons expand, but so does the unknown beyond them. Which maybe is a valid reason for talking about these things as a non-expert. If you wait until you truly know everything before having a discussion you'll never open your mouth. And if the only people talking are the ones who think they know everything then we are all in trouble!

So here we go. Economics posts when I need to get something from my brain down in writing, cat chaos whenever it occurs. Both are attempts to understand why things are the way they are.
